ARE YOU ELIGIBLE FOR A PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION?
Homestead Exemption?
Property owners who are 65 or older may apply for the Homestead Exemption. If you are eligible to receive the Homestead Exemption, the exemption amount is subtracted from your property’s assessed value. In Scott County this will save you over $230 in property taxes. The exemption amount may be adjusted every two years to reflect a change in the cost of living index used by the United States Department of Labor.
Only one exemption (Homestead or Disability) is allowed per household. Those who currently receive the exemption need not reapply. You can receive the Homestead Exemption on residential or commercial property as long as you own and occupy the property. If you have an exemption and sell your property, please contact us with the new property address; the exemption will then be taken off the old property and placed on your new property.
For 2011 - 2012, the exemption amount is $34,000 and will reduce your property tax bill by over $230 dollars!!!
Call us at 863-7885 for details.
Disability Exemption?
Property owners who have been declared totally disabled for the previous twelve (12) months by any public or private retirement system may be eligible for the disability exemption. If you are eligible, the amount of the exemption is subtracted from your property’s assessed value â€" so you will pay less property tax.
Kentucky law requires that every person who receives the disability exemption must reapply each year with the Property Valuation Administrator. For 2010-2011, the exemption amount is $34,000 and will reduce your property tax bill by more than $230!!!
